Veteran’s Memorial Park at 31st & Girard is looking a little brighter thanks to the generous help of nearly 20 volunteers from AIMCO. They helped weed, clean up, and plant flowers around the park to help make it more inviting for everyone to enjoy. Check out pictures from the day on our Facebook Page.
The Fairmount Avenue Fund is a campaign to make Fairmount Avenue even more beautiful. By matching grant monies with fundraising dollars we hope to install new street banners, planters, trashcans, an information kiosk and more to make the Avenue more pedestrian friendly, attractive, and inviting. We’ve secured limited funding to get these projects started, but we’re depending on the generosity of our businesses and neighbors to complete these project. Every little bit helps, so please contribute today. And remember, as a 501(c)3 organization, all donations are tax deductible.
Acting as a gateway to Brewerytown and the West Girard Avenue Commercial Corridor the newly completed mural celebrates the past, present, and future of a storied neighborhood. The mural was made possible by the City of Philadelphia’s Commerce Department, Preservation Alliance’s Vital Neighborhoods Program, Pearlstein’s Furniture business owners’ Saul and Howard Victor, and the strong collaboration of local community groups. Hear from the community groups, artist, and the City of Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program at this community celebration and dedication. Complimentary water ice will be served.

The purpose of this Request for Proposals (“RFP”) is to select for-profit and non-profit developers to partner with the Fairmount Community Development Corporation (“FCDC”) to acquire, renovate and sell Philadelphia Housing Authority (“PHA”) properties located in the Fairmount neighborhood. The renovated properties can be sold to the general public at market rate, however providing affordable housing to low-moderate-middle income households is a priority for the FCDC therefore developers who can carve out a certain percentage of affordable, income-restricted properties will be given preference in this RFP process. There are no subsidies available for any affordable units proposed. Properties must be purchased at fair market value and developers select and pay for the appraisals of each property.

After countless weekends of awful weather we were able to distribute 10 new hand painted trash cans along West Girard Avenue. The trash cans, that were painted by volunteers during the MLK Day of Service in January, will act to control litter along the avenue while adding colorful elements to the corridor. Check out photos from the day below…
