The Philadelphia Water Department is unveiling an exciting new program called Rain Check and has selected Fairmount as one of it’s pilot neighborhoods. This means you can receive innovative rain water management and greening tools installed at your home for very little cost.

Join the Fairmount CDC and the Greater Brewerytown CDC for the 2012 Philly Spring Cleanup! We will be meeting at 9AM at Veteran’s Memorial Park, located at 31st & Girard, to distribute supplies and break into smaller groups for cleaning efforts around the neighborhood. Specific sites include Veteran’s Memorial Park, the Poplar Street Bridge, the Brewerytown Gateway at 31st & Glennwood and other areas depending on turnout.

Before heading out we’ll ask volunteers to also “plant” an over-sized wooden flower that residents’ wrote their dreams on during the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The completed garden will be a temporary installation known at the “Dream Garden”.

After volunteering, at 1PM, we invite everyone back for a celebration and dedication of the renewed park and Dream Garden.  Sign up below to volunteer!

Community Development Intern

The Community Development Intern, under the supervision of the Executive Director and Communications Director, will be responsible for the development and coordination of two community engagement projects:

Young Friends of Fairmount program

An affinity group of the Fairmount Community Development Corporation, the purpose of the Young Friends of Fairmount group is to engage Fairmount residents under 40.  Some of the proposed activities of the Young Friends of Fairmount group are:

• Sports Teams
• Social and Networking Events
• Community Beautification Projects
• Unique Fundraising events and projects

Local Fairmount Food promotion

This will be an event/promotion that encourages residents and Philadelphians to dine at Fairmount Restaurants.  The number of restaurants in the Fairmount area has drastically increased over the past two years.  FCDC would like to celebrate the growth (while celebrating our “oldie, but goodie” restaurants) with a promotional event.

The desired qualifications and experience are as follows:

• Pursuing degree in Hospitality, Tourism and/or Event Planning
• Excellent Time and Project Management skills
• The ability to work in a close team environment
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage residents
• Experience in event planning
• Overall coolness

Fairmount Arts Crawl, taking place on Sunday, April 29 from 2-6pm, is seeking artists and fine crafters who wish to exhibit their work. This is an incredible opportunity, and there will be no commission fee charged on any work you sell. We seek to represent art from a wide array of mediums from a variety of artists from the Greater Philadelphia Area and beyond.  There are multiple options to participate in Fairmount Arts Crawl:

1)      Placement at one of the ~ 40 participating venues in the Fairmount neighborhood.

2)      If we are unable to place you at a participating venue, we are expanding last year’s successful Artist Alley which will be setup on the sidewalks of Eastern State Penitentiary around the 22^nd & Fairmount corner.  Artist Alley will combine artists, unique fine crafters, community groups, and activities, making this a key hub of Fairmount Arts Crawl.  

Pricing Levels:

$75 – If you bring your own outdoor display including tent, tables, chairs. Display needs to be approved.

~$145-$160 – If you need a tent rented, multiple tables, we can rent those items at cost.
