Barbara Gilliam entered the mental health field as a way to give back to her community. Now, she’s five months into owning Journey 2 Healing, a Brewerytown-based business focused on helping customers incorporate self-care into their routine.
Several years ago while feeling burnt out from all of her competing responsibilities, Barbara thought to herself, “Where am I happiest?” She realized that getting a massage or her nails done helps her start to feel better.
The pandemic made her take the next step and plan to open a spa. Her motivation was simple: “I want to make people feel good.”
Journey 2 Healing Spa had its grand opening on Mother’s Day 2023. As a mom herself, Barbara knows the importance of parents making time for themselves.
“I wanted an environment where people could come in and feel at home and at peace.” Barbara said. She offers complimentary food and beverages for her clients, providing them a luxurious environment where they can disconnect.
But self-care isn’t just for adults. Journey 2 Healing Spa offers children’s manicures and pedicures as well so spa day can be a whole family outing.
If you’re just starting on your self-care Journey, Barbara recommends trying a pedicure while enjoying a complimentary wine or latte.
