October Community Digest

We greatly appreciate all the neighbors, partners, vendors, businesses, and sponsors who have contributed to the planning of this year's Girard Avenue Street Festival - unfortunately we have made the decision to postpone tomorrow's festival due to weather.

We encourage everyone to visit businesses on Girard Avenue this weekend if possible! The mix of longtime and new business-owners makes the corridor one of the city's most unique and diverse. There will be street closures on Girard due to SEPTA construction in the coming weeks, and our support will be essential to helping businesses through the disruption.

October is always a lively time in the Art Museum District - looking forward to connecting with neighbors through events across the month. Read below for more.

Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary

Select nights, September 23 through November 12. Tickets start at $34.

Halloween Nights is an immersive experience featuring five thrilling haunted houses — plus historic tours, themed bars, live entertainment, and more — inside the massive, abandoned complex of Eastern State Penitentiary. All proceeds from Halloween Nights benefit the preservation and interpretation of Eastern State Penitentiary, a National Historic Landmark. New for 2022! Nightmares (Haunted House) brings you face-to-face with the creatures that lurk in the shadowy corners of your most unsettling dreams. Big Top Terror (Haunted House) winds through the grounds of a twisted carnival with menacing characters at every turn. Then, stop for a drink and carnival eats at the Bizarre Bar (Themed Bar) where fire dancers, knife throwers, and other acts will be on hand to entertain. Learn more and purchase tickets at www.HalloweenNights.org.

The gathering will begin at 6:00pm, with ice cream from Over the Moon and beer from Bar Hygge available for purchase. We’ll show It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown at dusk for our littlest viewers, and then continue with our feature film.
