“Oh my goodness, I don’t even want to eat this!”
Irene Council-Grant, owner of Platinum Fruit Creations at 2732 West Girard Avenue, has learned to take this as a compliment. Her intricate fruit bouquets and cakes leave customers in awe and asking “is this really all fruit?”
Platinum Fruit Creations is entering its second year in Brewerytown, but Irene’s journey started years earlier.
In 2006 she was looking to buy a fruit bouquet for a family in her community going through a challenging time. After realizing that the $100 she had planned on spending was not enough to purchase one, she decided to make the gift herself. Little did she know that this was the beginning of a hobby that would lead her to open one of the most unique businesses in the city.
For the next decade and a half she continued making fruit bouquets on the side while working full-time in social services and as a job coach. When the pandemic hit, she began delivering fruit bouquets to hospitals and nursing homes. She experimented with her menu options, adding watermelon cakes.
The warm reception to her creations gave her the confidence to turn her hobby into a full-fledged business. In 2022, Platinum Fruit Creations opened its doors and two layer fruit cakes quickly became her favorite menu item to make.
Irene takes pride in going above and beyond for her customers. “I am a creative person. I have a real passion for what I do,” she said. “If you choose to order from me, you are going to get my best and my daughter’s best.”
Platinum Fruit Creations is a true family business. Irene described her daughter as her creative partner, while her son is her delivery driver. The small but mighty team offers delivery throughout Philadelphia and to parts of New Jersey and Delaware.
